How can we prepare for an event that happened over 2000 years ago? Or that might happen any day? Or that we could experience any moment should our hearts be open? Advent is about the coming of Christ: in Bethlehem, at the end of time, and right now into our hearts. We are called to prepare… for God’s coming in human flesh so that we can be made new, made a new creation. The Little Sisters at Queen of Peace chose to read and meditate on the daily devotions based on the words of C.S. Lewis. For him, the Grand Miracle is the incarnation – the birth of Christ, the act of God becoming a man.
Lord, the incarnation is the grand miracle because our faith hinges on its truth. We worship the person of Jesus because he is fully God and, therefore, worthy of our worship. As man, he lived a perfect life of obedience so that you accepted his sacrifice as sufficient on our behalf. Thank you for making atonement for us and remind us daily of the beauty and the mystery of the incarnation. Amen
We scurried to the chapel to listen to more every day! The age-old readings of scripture were made new in the words of C.S. Lewis.
Come, Lord Jesus, come and save us! May we be open to your coming today and at the end of time!
