For the Residents’ annual three-day retreat (April 8-10), we welcomed retreat master Father Patrick Martin. He led the Residents in a grace-filled retreat brought to life by his amazing personal story.
Father Pat became blind at age nine following a serious illness. Since that time his life has become a journey of discovery, discovery of God’s eternal love for him and each person. He has travelled the country preaching over a thousand parish missions and retreats. We heard about Father Pat when he preached a parish mission last year at a nearby parish.
During the retreat at our Home, he shared his personal experiences to illustrate the power of God’s love, especially in times of suffering and brokenness. He spent time visiting each of the Residents in their rooms. There was a special connection between him and the Residents as Father. Pat brought God’s love to them. Each session ended with the song “He Loves Me.” Father Pat also taught them the little invocation, “Mary, help me to see God’s love for me today.”
