On August 2, the Little Sisters of the Poor were awarded the Gaudium et Spes Award by the Knights of Columbus at their States Dinner in Toronto, Canada. Mother Provincial Loraine Marie Clare, who is the Provincial of the Baltimore Province, received the award in the name of the Congregation.
This was the first time that the award was given to a group. In the past, it has been awarded to an individual. Among those attending were more than 2,000 Knights of Columbus and their family members, cardinals, bishops and clergy.
Representing the Little Sisters of the Poor were the three Mothers Provincial of the United States: Sr. Catherine Emmanuel, the Bursar General from the motherhouse in France, and several other Little Sisters. As stated by the Knights of Columbus, “The award recognizes individuals for their exemplary contributions to the realization of the message of faith and service in the spirit of Christ as articulated in the document for which it is named.”
