To celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25), we were blessed to have Rev. Darryl James, pastor of nearby Grace Episcopal Church, join us for an interdenominational prayer service. Rev. James came to the afternoon service with a group of his parishioners, several of whom are elderly themselves. One woman was proud to tell us that she is 92! For the service, our chaplain, Msgr. William Rodgers, and Rev. James led us in prayers for Christian unity and readings from the Word of God. Rev. James preached a sermon on the theme of this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: What Does God Require of Us? (drawn from Micah 6: 6-8). One of the visiting parishioners accompanied the service with the bongo drums. The recessional hymn, We Are Marching, was a time of fraternal joy as Rev. James led us in singing and clapping to the beat, and the Residents were happy to praise God with dancing.
