Association of Jeanne Jugan
As you may be aware, the Association Jeanne Jugan at Queen of Peace is a group of men and women, married and single, who choose to share in the life and Mission of the Little Sisters “to serve Christ with joy and love in the elderly by following the example of humility and confidence left by Jeanne Jugan.” Persons interested in becoming Association members undergo a year of spiritual preparation. New members are then welcomed into the Association of Jeanne Jugan by making a promise to imitate the example of St. Jeanne Jugan by serving Christ through the care of the elderly poor.
This solemn promise is renewed annually. The Associates live out their promise through ongoing spiritual formation and by sharing in the ministry of the Little Sisters, through works of Mercy.
May 29th was a very special day for the Association of Jeanne Jugan at Queen of Peace. The day saw the renewal of the promise made by the current Associates and the welcoming of new members to the Association. The event was held in front of our Home in before the statue of St Jeanne Jugan which welcomes visitors to Queen of Peace.
In addition to the promise renewal, the ceremony involved group prayer, a spiritual reflection led by our Chaplain Fr. Sal Amato and gracious words of thanks to the Association from Mother Celine.
While the COVID lockdown has hampered some of the activities of the Association this past year, its’ membership is looking forward to once again, serving as liturgical ministers for Masses, volunteering in various ways to make our Residents happy and comfortable and to provide and serve hospitality to families and friends of deceased Residents during wake services. These are true Acts of Mercy in the spirit St. Jeanne Jugan and the Mission of the Little Sisters. In addition, the Associates await the time they can once again participate in days of Reflection and weekend retreats to strengthen their spiritual formation.
Queen of Peace is most fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people who selflessly give of themselves to support the Mission of the Little Sisters through a genuine spiritual commitment. The Associates truly understand the words of St. Jeanne Jugan – “Be kind, especially with the infirm. Love them well…Oh yes! Be kind. It is a great grace God is giving you. In serving the aged, it is he himself whom you are serving.”
