On December 7, 10 of the 35 member 42nd Infantry Division Band came to entertain our Residents. This was not the first time they had come to Queen of Peace Residence and hopefully it will not be the last. Staff Sargent Ethan Wagner expressed a desire to return with the full complement of band members sometime in the summer.
The group played military marches as well as Christmas music. The program was enjoyed by all of the Residents present whether it was through watching solo performances or joining in.
A division of the United States Army National Guard, the 42nd Infantry Division, was created in 1917 with regiments from 26 States. It has served in World War I, World War II and the Global War on Terrorism. During Hurricane Sandy, it was mobilized to assist in the cleanup efforts.
Over the division’s history, it has come to be known as the “Rainbow Division”, a name which resulted from a comment made by General MacArthur that the new division would “stretch over the whole country like a rainbow.”
We thank them for their entertainment and for what they do for our country!
