Breakfast at Belmont is always a treat! This year was no different. On Saturday, May 30, Residents, volunteers, and Little Sisters from Queen of Peace and St. Joseph’s Residence in Totowa, New Jersey enjoyed delicious breakfast sandwiches prepared by the kitchen in Totowa, treats from Dunkin’ Donuts, and, of course, coffee, tea and OJ. After breakfast, some in our group went on a tram ride throughout Belmont Park, while others just enjoyed a perfect view of the horses in training. There was hope that “American Pharoah” would be there, but we were told that the horse would not arrive until a few days before the race. Just a week later, all witnessed “American Pharoah” win the Belmont Stakes and a triple crown! There was much cheering in the coffee shop as we watched the exciting race. There were very many who placed their $1.00 bet on “American Pharoah,’ but the winners still walked away with $7.00 each!
