Happy 4th of July! It certainly was a happy one here at Queen of Peace. The festivities began in the morning. Residents, Sisters and guests gathered in the lobby for a parade. With flags in-hand we marched into the auditorium for a program for a reading from a Declaration of Independence, poems, and prayers. We had our own fireworks – at least – the sound of fireworks as some of the Sisters and volunteers throw poppers. The morning gathering ended with the singing of some of our familiar national songs.
Mass followed our parade, and again we heard of the importance of our freedom as citizens of the United States. With songs such as America the Beautiful and The Battle Hymn of the Republic, we all reflected on how blessed we are to live in freedom. We prayed for those who do not enjoy the freedoms that we often take for granted.
After Mass, the celebration continued with a barbeque. Everyone enjoyed the day. God bless America!
