On Thursday, January 19 we hosted the second annual German Fest dinner-fundraiser. Like last year, everyone in attendance had a great time, German-style. The dinner was held at Hempstead Country Club in Elmont and planned by the Queen of Peace Auxiliary, who oversaw every detail that made the evening so enjoyable. The dinner included a wide range of German fare and was nicely prepared and graciously served by the Hempstead staff. A lively German band, “Bud Gramer and Linda,” and German folk dancers entertained us throughout the evening, inviting the audience to participate after the dinner. The night ended with a Chinese auction emceed by Mother Celine. Thanks to the generosity of benefactors, several Residents were able to come and enjoy these German delights.
Here are some comments from those in attendance:
“I enjoyed every bit of it. The food was delicious … I can’t wait for Irish Night!” – Katherine Byrne, Resident.
“Everything was better than I anticipated. The entertainment was terrific and the food was great.” – Audrey Guillon, Resident.
“It was a wonderful evening. It brings me back to when I was growing up and would spend time with my German grandmother.” – Diane O’Donnell, retired employee
“I learned new things about German culture.” – Sister Sheila
“The folk dancers were magnificent!” – Sister Frances Catherine
To all those who made this evening a success and for your support for the Home we give a rousing, “Dankeschön!”
