As in previous years, we unfortunately had to have our flag raising and picnic in the auditorium. But this could not take away our patriotic fervor. For the flag-raising ceremony, we asked our receptionist Tanuja Chhara – who just became a US citizen – to hold the flag and lead us in reciting the Pledge of Alliance. Then we went to the chapel to celebrate the Eucharist and pray for our country. The kitchen crew weathered the rain and grilled out dinner outside. The Residents were comfortably seated in the auditorium and enjoyed the attention of our volunteers, staff, novices and sisters. All-American pie a la mode was the fitting dessert to end a wonderful picnic dinner.
