Something new was tried this year at Queen of Peace Residence. Instead of a Christmas party for all of the Residents in the auditorium, each dining room was the meeting place for separate and special parties. Residents on the second floor enjoyed their goodies on Monday while the apartment Residents met on Tuesday for a bit of Christmas cheer. The third floor Residents had their turn to exchange Christmas greetings on Wednesday.
At each party, there was everything from eggnog to cider to wine to soda, as well as the usual coffee or tea with an array of cakes, cookies, petite cheesecakes, ice cream, nuts and special yule log cakes made by our Development Director’s daughter and her friend.
The Residents enjoyed the company of the Little Sisters who were there for the entire party conversing and singing more than the sweets. Volunteers helped serve the Residents and were happy to join the celebration. Santa Claus made an appearance at each party presenting the Residents with a gift and posing for a photo. To everyone’s surprise, Mrs. Claus came along with Santa at the third floor party.
The Little Sisters take a fourth vow of hospitality and it was evidenced in a special way this week. As Saint Jeanne Jugan said, “making the elderly happy – that is what counts!”
