“The best part about performing is seeing the smiles on the Residents’ faces” exclaimed Hannah Conway, a young singer who recently performed at the Queen of Peace Residence. Hannah is part of a group called The Young Catholic Musicians who came to our home on Friday June 10th to put on a show called “100 Years of Broadway.” The show, including an orchestra and a group of vocalists, took our residents on a journey through the past 100 years of Broadway music. The Residents ears perked up as familiar tunes were brought to the their ears. Many could be seen singing along to the music and tapping their toes with joy filled smiles. Applause erupted throughout the auditorium as the students finished their show. A group picture was taken afterwards as the residents went up to thank the entertainers.
The Young Catholic Musicians are made up of school aged children from St. Louis Missouri ranging from the ages of 4th grade to freshmen in college. This performance was a part of their New York Summer Tour in which they played music at many Catholic parishes, schools and homes. One young singer told us that the group put on a winter and summer tour every year and also sing at masses about once a month. In total this was a wonderful performance that was enjoyed by all. We hope that the Young Catholic Musicians return to Queen of Peace next year and we wish them the best of luck in the future!
