Happy 100th Birthday, Sr. Mary Monica
On February 4 we celebrated the 100th birthday of our beloved Sr. Mary Monica. Sister has been a member of the Little Sister for 75 years. Her faith journey has brought her from her birthplace in Ireland to England, France and then to the Brooklyn Province of the Little Sisters where she has served in a variety of capacities, including in the religious formation of our Novices to this very day!
The day began with a special Mass of Thanksgiving our Chapel. The principal celebrant was Fr. Sean McDonnell who along with our own Chaplain Fr. Evans, created a wonderful spirit of Thanksgiving for Sister within all those in attendance.
After a festive luncheon with Sisters from the entire Brooklyn Province, a gathering of Sisters, Residents, employees and friends of Sister got together in our auditorium for a fun-filled, Irish themed celebration complete with a bagpipe escort of Sister provided by the Emerald Society of the New York Police Department.
Sister remains an avid reader and student of theology. She talks passionately about her personal relationship with Jesus. To know Sister is to know her pleasant manner and a keen sense of humor. We are all blessed to have her in our community.
