Welcome Bishop Brennan
On Tuesday of this week, several Little Sisters attended the installation of Bishop Robert J. Brennan as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Timothy Cardinal Dolan and Archbishop Christophe Pierre officiated the Mass at the co-cathedral of St. Joseph in Prospect Heights.
Bishop Brennan is a Bronx native who was raised on Long Island. He was previously the Bishop of Columbus, Ohio. In his homily, he proudly stated, in his friendly and welcoming manner, “Born in the Bronx, city roots, but from South Shore of Long Island,” he said. “I spent 50 of my 59 years right here on Long Island, Nassau, Suffolk and Queens even, breathing in that salt water air.”
Bishop Brennan is widely seen as a genial pastor and talented church administrator. His fidelity to Christ and his church is displayed in his episcopal motto, “Thy will be done.” The Bishop told those gathered that his episcopal motto “is a reminder of what you need to do, so it’s a reminder to me always to seek God’s will and to try the best that I can to do God’s will.”
We hold the new Bishop in our prayers and wish him well as he assumes his new responsibilities.
