February 4th was a special night at Queen of Peace as the students and Marianist Brothers from Chaminade and Kellenberg High Schools joined us for our annual Junior/Senior Prom!
The Little Sisters and staff spent the afternoon helping the residents get ready for the big night. The evening began with the students picking up their dates from their rooms and bringing them down to the auditorium which had been transformed into a Mexican dance hall. At the door each resident was given a corsage of white carnations and had their picture taken with their date before an arch made of brightly colored balloons. Some of the residents even found themselves with multiple dates!
The night was filled with two hours of music and dancing and wheelchairs were no obstacle to the fun! A live band provided lively entertainment of old favorites. Many of the residents spent the entire evening on the dance floor with no sign of tiring! Of course there was also time for casual chatting and refreshments. As the clock struck nine the last dance number ended and the students escorted our happy residents back to their rooms where, after so much dancing and toe-tapping, they enjoyed a good night’s sleep! Thank you to our good friends the Marianist Brothers and their students for putting on such a lovely evening. We are already looking forward to next year!
