A Faithful Discovery
“Praise be to you my Lord, with all your creatures,” prayed St. Francis of Assisi. With this simple but profound prayer, he has encouraged believers of many generations to recognize creation as the fruit of God’s eternal Love.
This past week, a good number of our Residents, participated in a Faithful Discovery of our beautiful grounds as part of the Church’s Season of Creation. First celebrated in 1989, this annual ecumenical celebration starts on September 1st, on the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation instituted by Pope Francis in 2015, and ends on October 4, the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.
Pope Francis described the Season of Creation as “the season for letting our prayer be inspired anew by closeness to nature, which spontaneously leads us to give thanks to God the Creator.
The Season of Creation is a time of grace that the Church, in ecumenical dialogue, offers to humanity to renew its relationship with the Creator and with creation, through celebration, conversion and commitment together.
Thanks to the efforts of our Activities Director, Marianne, our Residents had the opportunity to walk or be driven around, our grounds and appreciate the beauty before them. To keep the day in focus, each Resident had a “treasure list,” to use as a guide to discovering the varieties of our plant life and symbols of our spiritual life, located throughout our grounds.
By all accounts, the beautiful day was a total success on many levels. We thank all of our Residents who participated in this day of inspiration and appreciation. We also gratefully thank Mariann for all of her efforts to make this celebration truly special.
