A Socially Distant Success
Happy Thanksgiving! These were the words heard most often last Saturday, November 14, the day of our Annual Turkey and Ham Drop at Queen of Peace Residence. The day was sunny and mild and our friends and benefactors made the effort to visit our Home to donate Turkeys and Hams.
Although we had to observe our socially distant protocols, the Sisters were still able to say thank you for the sacrifices made by so many to support our Home. Our Auxiliary Committee was unable to join us for the event and they were surely missed. Also absent this year, was our hot chocolate and homemade cookies. Despite these differences, the mere chance to see our friends and benefactors, even in masks, and to be able to say “thank you” and “Happy Thanksgiving”, was a wonderful experience for us. Thank you!
The generosity demonstrated on Saturday was tremendous. The Little Sisters and our Residents are so grateful and humbled by the generosity of those who came and donated so many turkeys and hams for our Home to use throughout the year.
A special shout out to the New Hyde Park Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes Council #2852 who arranged for a three-parish caravan of donations to our Home! We love our loyal Knights and Columbiettes.
Another shout out goes to our friend Gasper Salamone who arranged for his exotic car club to drive their unique cars to our Home on Saturday afternoon to donate turkeys, hams and a good supply of dry goods as well.
Thank you to all who joined us on Saturday. God Bless you all.
We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving spent with those you love, while staying safe.
