Celebrating the Feast of Jeanne Jugan

  • August 30, 2015

On August 30, the Solemnity of Saint Jeanne Jugan was celebrated with much joy. Bishop Raymond Chappeto, D.D., Vicar General of the Brooklyn Diocese, accepted the invitation to be the main celebrant at the Mass. Our three Resident priests concelebrated with the bishop.  We were happy to have the Little Sisters and Novices from Saint Ann’s Novitiate with us. Members of the Association Jeanne Jugan also joined us for the celebration. During his homily, the Bishop reminded the Residents that the Little Sisters were called to be Christ to the elderly; and the Residents, in return, are called to be Christ to the Little Sisters. Bishop Chappetto visited the Residents in the dining rooms after Mass and then stayed to have dinner with the Resident priests.

Little Sisters joined the Residents in the early afternoon for a “Jeanne Jugan bingo” in the auditorium and then the jingle of Mister Softee could be heard and everyone gathered in front of the building to enjoy an ice cream treat.  Saint Jeanne Jugan must have been pleased to see everyone together as a family!
