We had the joy of celebrating the 100th birthday of long-time resident Rita Dreiss on Friday, March 9. Rita has lived at Queen of Peace for more than 20 years. To celebrate her century of life Rita had requested a nice but simple celebration. Her son and daughter-in-law joined her for a Mass of thanksgiving offered for her intentions, where Rita joined with the congregation in singing the closing hymn, Holy God, We Praise Thy Name. Following Mass the Little Sisters and Residents gathered in the main dining room to offer the new centenarian their congratulations and best wishes. She was offered flowers and gifts as we all sang Happy Birthday. The kitchen staff prepared a beautiful two-tiered birthday cake decorated with blue icing, in honor of Rita’s favorite color! The day before her big day one of the staff members had asked Rita how she was feeling about turning 100. Rita was thoughtful for a moment and said, “I never would have made it without this place!” Blessed by God!
Happy 100th, Rita!
