During Sunday Mass on April 29 we witnessed with joy our Association Jeanne Jugan members make or renew their year-long commitment to help the Little Sisters serve the elderly according to the spirit of St. Jeanne Jugan. This day is traditionally held on May 1, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, but was moved to April 29 so that more members would be able to attend. Twenty-six members renewed their promises for one year and we welcomed into the AJJ two new members: Denise Kelaher, our receptionist and volunteer, and Ann Seccia, whose mother is a resident in the home. The four members who were unable to come for the Mass will renew their promise at another time. The Associates came forward to make their promise after Holy Communion.
Together they recited this promise: In your presence, Lord Jesus, with your grace and through Mary’s intercession, I commit myself to the Association Jeanne Jugan of the Little Sisters of the Poor, for one year. I promise to serve you in the elderly with joy and love, by following the example of humility and confidence left to us by St. Jeanne Jugan.
These wonderful collaborators share in the spirituality of the Congregation and contribute, each in his or her unique way, to the life of the home and the happiness of the residents. May the Lord bless them in their endeavors for his kingdom!
