On the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11, we celebrated World Day for the Sick. This year was made special by the presence of our good friend Deacon Sean Suckiel, who presided over a prayer service and blessing of the sick for our Residents. The service began with a blessing of all present with holy water from Lourdes. Deacon Sean then exposed the Blessed Sacrament and after the Rosary recited together, gave a touching homily on the Gospel of John, sharing his powerful experience of Our Lord’s healing touch in the Eucharist. He then carried the monstrance through the chapel, blessing each section of the congregation. During the blessing a Little Sister novice who is here for her six-week apostolic experience played the clarinet. It was a prayerful moment for our Residents and all present as “the Lord passed by.” During these months leading up to his priestly ordination in June, Deacon Sean is serving at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Elmhurst, New York.
