August 30th is a special day at Queen of Peace Residence. It is the traditional feast day of St. Jeanne Jugan – the foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
The feast day of Jeanne Jugan is a celebration of the mission of the Little Sisters to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with Dignity until God calls them to Himself.
The feast day Mass was celebrated by Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski, Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Centre and no stranger to the Little Sisters.
The Mass was con-celebrated by our own Chaplain, Fr. Arthur Minichello. In his homily, Bishop Andrzej stressed that the work of the Little Sisters is done in the presence of Jesus. In addition, the Bishop recognized the value of Humble Service practiced by the Little Sisters by saying that to get to Heaven; we all need to go together, to put the needs of others before our own.
After Mass, Bishop Andrzej joined our Residents, Associates of the Jeanne Jugan Society and our staff for lunch. We are most grateful to Bishop Andrzej for sharing our special feast day with us.
In the afternoon, our Residents enjoyed a special treat – a visit from Mr. Softee.
