On June 28, during the Fortnight for Freedom (June 21 – July 4) , Little Sisters from Queen of Peace Residence and Saint Ann’s Novitiate took part in a rally for religious freedom at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville, organized by Catholics for Freedom of Religion. Most Reverend John Oliver Barres, Bishop of the Rockville Centre Diocese, was the keynote speaker.
In his address, Bishop Barres said “This is a time for the Church to be a bold proponent of religious liberty and the principles of the Second Vatican Council document on religious liberty Dignitatis Humanae. And this is the time for each of us to be a bold proponent of religious liberty as well as an instrument of dramatic missionary growth as we both assert our rights as Americans and seek to bring the truth of Christ to our communities, our neighbors, our families and ourselves.”
